display:block on this img should solve it.

(IE constructs a baseline in an otherwise empty div, and places the 
inline img like a character "g", "p" on this baseline to make room for a 
descender of the img ...)

One option: Define a containing block via position:relative on any box. 
apply position:absolute to the img/imgwrapper and offset it with 
top+left relatively to the origin of the c. b.
