I /think/ if you assign the same height for the nav that you have in the 
star hack for IE, that Opera8.5 through Opera9beta will be more cooperative.
However, that is a guess, as I did not try it.
Changing the Clag*nut*(62.5%) method, if you are up for it (and reducing 
the font size on the left and right columns),
body { font-size: /*62.5%*/100%;   }
p { /*font-size: 1.3em; */ }
will enable children of all ages to read your site at 1280 and maybe 
1400 without zooming it from here to kingdom come.
