I haven't resolved this but decided to let go of the nice hover background color for now. The whole effort works great on http://www.kch.uiuc.edu (another page I did). But on the ALS page there's a wild float somewhere messing IE up. I can't locate a reference to the IE hover/float issue that I read about some time ago, if anyone has a reference to pass my way, it would be greatly appreciated.
