I would only add that in all matters one has to make a decision about who we are and what we hope to accomplish. It is good to experiment and try different things, and I would encourage anyone to continue to do so. At some point in time it is necessary for each of us to look in a mirror. You can accept what you see or you can attempt to change. The wheel has been invented. If you want an em width layout then you have choices: invent one from scratch; or choose one that has been resolved, and is known to work cross-browser. Only you can decide what is best for you. But either way, a 'neat tool' is seldom a satisfactory answer to creativity.
