Hello all,

I'm new to this listserv, so forgive any faux pas I may commit in sending
this message. :)

I'm trying to work out the structure of a site that will be three columns
with a header and footer, with the left-hand column including a CSS-based
popout menu. I discovered that when I placed the menu within the left-hand
column div, though, it becomes constrained within the div and won't pop out
over the center content, which is what I want it to do.

Here's an illustration of the problem:

(warning: hideous colors are just for me to be able to see where the divs
are; warning #2: the menu code is blatantly ripped off from
http://www.seoconsultants.com/css/menus/vertical/, and the 3-column layout
comes from http://www.tjkdesign.com/articles/liquid/4.asp. I was using the
code from these sites to try to get the skeleton that I want working, and
then am going to change things so they look like I want.)

How can I get the left-hand menu to extend out of its own div over the
content when it pops out?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Best,

Katie Shrieves
