Hi, I've been reading the archives trying to fix this difference in display between ff and ie, but I haven't quite got it working the same yet. The position: relative on the div fixed the very strange display problem, but IE6 doesn't bleed the left edge of the div outside the table. Any ideas?
The demo page is here: http://atownley.org/wip/demo.html Bear in mind that the CSS styling hasn't really made it into the content area yet. I was hacking/experimenting in-line and then moving it into the stylesheet, but ran into problems getting the navigation/content display the way I wanted. Please don't laugh too hard... :) I'm also open to thoughts on how to get around using a 2-column table to ensure that the columns don't stack, but I want a liquid layout without any fixed pixel sizes (so font size changes work correctly), and I want to avoid having the divs "stack" for portrait browser layouts. While not elegant, the table hack exhibits the behavior I want. All of the techniques for divs that I have tried so far between the books I have and the websites I found either required absolute pixel widths or they resulted in the page only having 2 columns in landscape windows. Given the choice and the way the visual style I want needs to work, I'm prepared for "squished" over "stacked" behavior. If necessary, I'll add min-width properties, but I'd prefer to avoid it. I'm open to any and all suggestions that will make the page easier to maintain but still achieve the layout I want. Thanks in advance for your assistance. ast -- Andrew S.
