This is what it looks like when it encounters a browser minimum font size
equal to the browser default size on a high resolution system:

The browser is Epiphany 1.8.0, which is a Gnome browser equivalent to
Firefox 1.0.x, running on Linux. The overlapping problem is virtually
identical with the Konqueror browser, which uses the same KHTML rendering
engine as Safari.

Heights of text containers set in px typically cause overlapping text when
user agent enforced legible font sizes are encountered. Set heights in em
instead to fix it. If you also set widths in em, the nav item spillage onto
2nd lines can go away too.
