Thank you for your opinion. It is my opinion that my text-heavy site is vastly more readable with double spaces after the period. And the fix is hardly messy and complicated (simple preg_replace functions).
Many references prefer it, I've found few if any that say "don't". Most say what your chosen reference below says "there is nothing wrong with" it.
