Hi all,
Last week I noticed the Outline-option (= "page tree structure from h1
to ...") in the w3c html-validator was gone. I liked this tool, so did
some research @ the w3c pages. - Maybe also good to know for those on
the list who didn't know yet:
* Indeed in the latest html-validator version v0.7.3 (release 23
Oct. 2006) some options are gone.
o though their disappearing is not mentioned in the validator
WhatsNew page: http://validator.w3.org/whatsnew.html,
o and though all old options are still mentioned in the
validator Users Guide:
http://validator.w3.org/docs/users.html#Options.
* The explanation of the canceling of the Outline-option can be
found in the message "Outline and Parse Tree features broken" of
24 Oct.2006 in the Validator Mailing List:
o http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/www-validator/2006Oct/0084
* An alternative for the disappeared Outline-option in the
html-validator is the "Semantic Data Extractor" of w3c:
o http://www.w3.org/2002/08/extract-semantic, or:
o http://www.w3.org/2003/12/semantic-extractor.html
* In the "Unicorn Project" the w3c is working on an integration of
css-, html- and other validators (alpha version September 2006):
o http://www.w3.org/QA/2006/obs_framework/
The developing of this combined validating tool looks good:
a quick quality check can be handy! :-)
Greetings,
francky
