First problem is that your flash element is not valid XHTML see the article
on Alistapart on how to embed Flash whilst complying with standards.

http://www.alistapart.com/articles/flashsatay/

There are 42 errors in your html - a great many of them caused by the Joomla
script which is unusual. I use Joomla and all my pages comply.
Make sure that you have the most up-to-date version (1.0.11).
The home page is always a nightmare as there is a table in there that has to
be rooted out - difficult to find (only page that uses a table if the rest
are defined as CSS).

The sub menu behind the picture will be a function of a float on the image I
suspect (without looking at code in great detail) but it isn't the Z-index.

Although I do use horizontal menus a great deal I am getting to the stage
that I don't think they are worth all the hassle in CSS.
