Hi, I've got a couple of problems in IE that I don't know how to fix...
if somebody could offer some tips I'd be grateful!

An example page is here:

        http://dev.holliday.wd-2.net/promotions

Problem #1: The "title bar" at the top of the main page content area,
where it reads "EVENTS & PROMOTIONS". This div
        - has a fixed height;
        - is absolutely positioned;
        - has a semitransparent "mask" box underneath it with the same
positioning and fixed height.

The problem is caused by the "diamond" graphic (a PNG on transparent
background) to the left of the text. This image is taller than the
height of its containing box. In Gecko & KHTML, we get a nice (and
intended) overlapping effect, which I expect is due to the default
'overflow' property value of 'visible'. However, IE instead stretches
the containing box vertically to fit the image. The box is now taller
than the underlying "mask" box, giving rise to the gap you see in IE.

Problem #2: When I view this page in IE 6 (don't know about IE 7), the
content area comes up black on black— or maybe it's black with
unreadably dark text. Anyway, if I scroll downward, the lower parts of
the page that are revealed appear normal; then, if I scroll back up to
the top again, the upper part reappears with the normal appearance.
It's as though scrolling "wipes away" the badness, like one of those
Etch-A-Sketch things with the "erase" bar... Does anybody else get
that, too? Any idea as to what's causing it?

Thanks for any help,
—ml—
