It is pretty much a given that the first thing checked is validation-- 
so you may want to address that. The issues you have in that regard to 
the markup validation are most easily taken care of by Tidy Online 
<http://infohound.net/tidy/> (back up your file before running tidy).
All in all, I think you've done a fine job. It is behaving in xp as I 
believe you intend in ff and opera; and, even ie7.0. If your client 
needs to hit ie/6.0 there are some width issues to resolve.
