Try changing your source code to:
<div class="wholeContainer">
Or change your CSS to:
#wholeContainer:before { ...yadda... )
#wholeContainer:after { ...yadda... }
Keep in mind, this technique is not fully supported, but degrades
gracefully (from what I have seen and tested.)
