Ingo - many thanks! You're spot on - it's a has layout problem. I've tried zoom:1; display: inline-block; min-height: 0; and all work
To be on the safe side I will use one of the fixes which work for both IE6 and IE7 - in the past I've usually stuck with display: inline-block; as it validates. Many thanks for your help!
