Good advice, David. My firebug and web developer had told me the page /was/ completely valid, but w3's validator argues. For reasons absolutely beyond my ken, it is telling me certain <p>s and <div>s are not 'expected', and should instead be <object>s... Utterly bizarre. I'll try and get my head around that at some point, but for the case in point I believe it's sufficient to know that everything is behaving in standards compliant mode, or as close as they can get.
