I just struggled with trying to get Dreamweaver 8 to cooperate. You can open the style sheet like any other page and edit it in Dreamweaver, but it won't help you much. I was fortunate in that I had GoLive to use which has a really nice CSS editor, but Adobe hasn't ported it to Dreamweaver yet.
There are some nice text editors out there that have various plug-ins and syntax highlighting for style sheets. I use Textpad on Windows, but I'm sure there are lots of others that offer similar features. If you're using a Mac, then TextMate or BBedit are a couple of options.
