Try adding...

#thumbnail {clear: left;}

The borders are there, but double white borders are almost invisible
against white background in IE.

That's normal link-decoration for images in most browsers.

Browsers can't recover from every thinkable tag-soup meal, you know, and
you have some of the most non-standard element-nesting (in addition to
other flaws) I've seen in a long time.
