It would help if you got your syntax right.
ex: div::after {content: "[#"attr(id)"]"; color:white, background: lime}
Works in Fx 2.0+, Opera 9+, Safari2.0+

Distinction between pseudo-classes and pseudo-elements, per CSS3  
selectors module.
That is a distinction with the CSS 2.1 selectors chapter.
