I just took a look at what he was trying to achieve according to his 
example and decided the span tag might be the best thing to use... or at 
least that's what I would do :-)  In mentioning the centering I was 
listing the pros and cons, that's all.

You don't necessarily have to replace the FONT tag, you could simply 
wrap what you want bordered with a span tag and /not/ float it. :-)
