Hi. I'm trying to understand how the transparencies and overlays (used in
the various lightboxes) are done in CSS. I'm trying to make something
looking similar to a lightbox, but on a page without any JavaScript.

Two things that I need to do:
1. Show a gray, semi-transparent sheet over the entire page
2. Position another element - the "lightbox" - somewhere in the middle of
the page

I have some ideas for #2, but am a total loss for #1. Can anyone guide me
in this? Is there a good resource which explain how these things work?

Thanks
