I think that's probably a good place to leave things, as I think the questions that can be answered have been answered. If there's anything else that needs to be added to this topic, it should go onto a css-d wiki page about DOCTYPE switching. It seems to me like <http://css-discuss.incutio.com/?page=DoctypeSwitch> would be a good place to distill whatever's been learned, but if not, we can always add a new wiki page that references the one that exists.
