Thanks to everyone who responded to me...

I must say I feel a little silly that I didn't even think of setting the 
margin for my lists...  duh....

Problem #2 (bullet lists not indenting) is solved.  Not sure what I did, 
but I've been wondering if it's the oft-mentioned "hasLayout" ... one of 
the things I added was a "min-width" to the content div. But since I'm a 
big newbie, I have no idea whether that was what did it.
