Ok I have installed new IE8 and everything is working fine now (apart from IE's usually very slow loading). Have taken conditional out altogether and both IE8 and IE7 work great. Thanks again for all help. I confess I had delayed installing IE8 as hadn't been at all impressed with the Beta version. Done now..
