Hi,

I like the grey (gray) 'portfolio' word-mark on the left. I would
consider making this a fixed position. I think that the L.hand
vertical menu has a bit too much spacing, but I really like the long
underline for active and rollover. Having said this I am not so keen
that as you move from menu item to menu item the cursor changes, I
like block menus so as you move around the menu you are always on a
menu item. 'Navigate the portfolio examples' just doesn't look like a
menu at all. It's soo spaced out that even on my fairly high-res
screen I am not seeing any real content until halfway down the page,
scroll..... Why not use an underline to show that they are links?
Maybe a tad conventional but people know what it means.

The colours are very good, fonts and weights, use of caps are well
executed. Just too much white space (reminds me of a term used to
explain how dyslexics can view text without correct spacing called the
river effect - http://www.readregular.com/english/dyslexia.html ). One
of my favourite design companies use a similar menu to your L.hand one
- http://www.brownsdesign.com/work/?cat=146&id=66 (long underlines).
If you want a shock, look at their home page! Yikes!

Have a look at your hierarchy of information. What is that you want
people to read first? Portfolio? For who, of what? For me it seemed
that after reading 'portfolio' twice I went to 'navigate the
portfolio' and started looking at the portfolio. It wasn't until after
that I learnt that it's for 'website design and front-end
development', then the company name, then another tagline.

To separate the 'view portfo' from the actual portfolio increase the
size of the h5 (or make it h2 etc.). I really like your logo at the
bottom. Why can't you use that at the top? Make it clear what you are
about, and that they are on your portfolio page.

You have been a massive help to me and others David so I hate to be
critical. I don't usually bother commenting when something is complete
rubbish but this shows a lot of promise (I am a fan of clean and the
use of serif fonts). Typography can be tough, but made a lot easier if
you know what order you want people to read the information. I really,
really like the left hand column, menu and wordmark. I really like the
footer and your logo, name, address above it. I think you need to just
get the heading right, and this could be done as simply as moving your
nice logo up to the top. People really need to know whose website and
what it is about before going straight into the portfolio.

Keep me updated with any changes, I like how it is going.

Cheers, CB
