This is just a short reply. I will reply in more detail later when I 
can think about what you are desiring. Also I need to go to bed.

Please be aware the you can layer two ways. The first is by 
rearranging the source order which affects the _painting order_. 
Elements later in the source are painted higher than relative element 
earlier in the source.

The second type of layering is z-index and positioning which creates a 
_stacking order_.

np = non positioned
rp = relatively positioned
ap = absolutely positioned
