For the "inactive" state, Kalsey uses a selector with high specificity:

body.section-2 #menu ul#subnav-2 a

You'll need something at least as strong to override it - or else edit
the existing CSS.

WRT to the "hover" color, he has added !important, which is almost
impossible to override. Again, I suggest you edit the original code.

AT the same time you do this, I suggest you apply the same styles to the
"focus" condition, for the sake of those with no mouse...
