Thijs, I think you'll have far better luck cross-browser constructing a menu that is known to work cross-browser. The Stu Nicholls article you pointed to is old. And more current versions of his menu that work cross-browser tend to be a kludge of CSS, CSS hacks, and tables. As previously written, Thierry's menu [link above] fills the bill.
