After being side tracked by another project I am back trying to get this one
finished. I did away with the sticky footer as advised by Tom and added instead
a div with padding that can be adjusted for the page.
But I have lost the white background on the footer and for the life of me can't
figure out what it is. The height on the footer is auto and the background set
to white. I also set the container around the whole page to background white
and height 100% to no effect. It validated without errors. It looks the same in
IE 8 and FF.
I checked it in IE 6 and it has the white on the footer but the rest if the
page above it expands out to the whole screen, but I will worry about 6 later.
Any help is greatly appreciated
