It's certainly more realistic to fix 4 or 5 browsers (OK, maybe a FEW more ...) than millions of stylesheets. Moreover, as I understand the 'exploit', removing your own site's visited link style does nothing to protect your readers; the only way to protect them is to ensure browsers cannot 'sniff' the :visited info, or ensure they regularly clear their 'visited cache'. To be honest, short of the actual fix, I'd be in favour of a browser option to restrict :visited info to the session, where it's much more useful anyway. Finally, I note that google performs its own 'visited tracking', if you're logged in/have a google cookie, at least. Whether that's a good thing or a bad thing is a point I'll leave open to discussion.
