I think you may want to start with a base layout [1] that employs a
doctype and is stable, robust, and known to work well cross-browser.
Validate the markup [2] and the CSS [3].
Put your images in the #content division, adjusting width of same to
fit. Avoid all the complicated nesting of divisions you current use to
place those images and the written text that accompanies them..

Set a width of 980px and a margin: 0 auto; on #container. Delete the CSS
and markup for #extra.
