probably won't present me with major problems?
I'd say you're correct.
Lack of CSS validity doesn't cause major problems in browsers - as long
as you know what you're doing.
Even better if you comment what the non-valid parts are there for, to
make over-eager web coders and other "standardistas" off your back :-)
