Forgive me for asking the same question again, I definitely don't want
to waste anyone's time. Before I wrote last night, I tried adding zoom:
1 to the floated divs and then to their containing block but it didn't
have any effect in IE7. The floated divs did have a width applied which
I understand also allows an element to gain layout.
The problem turned out to be the width of the containing element in IE7,
it wasn't a layout issue after all.
Sorry, I'll try to be more clear on which solutions I've tried first
next time.
