No, that's pretty much what I'm getting. Your custom style sheets are playing with the fonts and colours a bit (making it harder to tell whether the text is centering or not), but the bad text placement is precisely the issue. I've updated the test page to define the list item measurements relative to the base font size, so you should have an easier time spotting the failure case. To be honest though, I just created this page as a test case for centering methods — the aesthetics, outside context artefacts etc aren't relevant to anything else (and this won't be shipping to any clients any time soon ;). It's more of a technical arcana question really.
