Try taking the "overflow: hidden;" off of the<p> tag and give the
#right div a height (about 344px seems pretty good). I'm off to a
meeting so can't do a real test, but this definitely worked in
firebug.

Thank you. That seems to be perfect. It cause the background to show up
too (and doubtless the border, though I've not checked). Why didn't I
think of that !
