Go to Tidy Online
<http://infohound.net/tidy/>
Cut and paste your page markup in the box.
Where it says Doctype [auto] change it to Doctype [transitional]
Click the big green "Tidy"
Cut the tidied page.
Reload Tidy.
Paste the "tidied" page in the box.
Click the big green "Tidy"
Cut and paste the tidied page in your editor.
Upload the tidied page to your server.

The above steps will validate the html.
Please note that while it is a good idea to run valid markup, valid
html  -- in your case --  *will not* correct any of the page issues
you wrote about...
