Im confused too, I copied and pasted the code and it displays inline
to me (IE&FF).  So I really dont know what you mean by centering the
images.... my guess is the same as MysticPixel's: centered relative to
a container.  I just tested Mystic's code and it displays block...
weird maybe i missed a typo.  Either way please clarify!
