A 'green' website is a stretch. It depends on the user's display, and
how long they're on your site.

A CRT uses more power making a pixel appear white, so a black
background will draw less power. A LCD on the other hand works by
blocking light, not creating light. A black background will draw
slightly more power. In either case, unless the window showing your
site is left open, in the foreground, for a long time, by a lot of
users, it won't make much difference at all.

You can save lots more energy by setting your machine to hibernate
after it's idle for 1 hour. In hot weather that also reduces the load
on the AC.
