I'm down to the last part of revising a little website, and have a problem
creating vertical space in one location. I've mentioned this once before
here, and I'll touch on that.

I have a line of text with my name as the author followed by the date the
article was written or revised. I can't add margin below it because the date
portion is inline, as Brandtley pointed out. Then someone else (sorry I
forgot who) suggested I simply add margin-top to the first paragraph of the
article (the current temporary fix). When I tried that, it broke the float
that held the image at the top left of the first paragraph. The photo ended
up placed on line with the author name and date written. That's why in this
link, The image has been moved to the second paragraph. I want the option of
using a photo leading into that first paragraph.

Yes, I can put a blank div between the author/date line and opening
photo/first paragraph, but to me it seems clumsy. I'll only do it if I it's
the only option. I don't want someone to come along later and see that blank
div and say: "Gee, why didn't you just ... (better solution here ..."
