+1 for getting the mascot out of the lettering. The current cTakes logo has the caduceus for a T, so people are somewhat familiar with it. However, if there is ever going to be a change then perhaps the time is right. I agree that putting the mascot to the side usually the actual name of the app. It also allows us to get away from the Caduceus, which is not really the symbol for medicine - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rod_of_Asclepius . Some physicians can get snarky when they see the caduceus, and dismiss everything that follows as coming from an uninformed source. Physicians. What can you do?
+1 for a "playful" mascot. cTakes is a serious application, but we need to have fun every chance we get. Plus, playful is memorable. If we go with a happy snake then I agree it needs to be a bit more polished than the current submission. -1 for the upward feather. Please don't take this the wrong way, and believe me it feels a touch odd writing it here, but my immediate reaction was that just looks a bit phallic. +1 for a feather in the snakes tail. A la hama. Do you really need the logo to be the T? We kind of tried the logo as a letter thing with ORBIT but people think the name is RBIT. The fact that the wings are so high up and the other letters are already caps doesn't really make it look like a T. It may look better with the feather-staff to the left and just plain ol' "Apache cTAKES" in the same font as the Hama Project. Also can I make a request that this be done in SVG or some other scalable vector format? Scaling gifs and jpgs makes it look horrible.
