smartnotes is a light LaTeX package for margin notes whose main
idea is simple: place each note on the side of the page that gives
the shortest and clearest connector line.
Instead of always using a fixed margin, smartnotes chooses the left
or right margin dynamically from the note position in the text,
making annotations feel direct and visually tied to the exact place
they refer to.
The package also includes forced side placement, basic overlap avoidance,
two box shapes, and a convenient global disable option for draft workflows.
