I've had a similar problem (JBoss 3.2.7, Axis 1.1) with a similar
error.
I've been able to work around it by putting axis.jar in the WEB-INF/lib
direcitory of the app, and giving the app its own Loader Repository:
Make the app an ear, i.e. create directory .../deploy/app.ear, put
app.war in app.ear, along with the META-INF directory, containing
application.xml and jboss-app.xml
application.xml is the standard j2ee file, referring to your war, and
jboss-app.xml looks like:
<jboss-app>
<loader-repository>
yourapp:service=LoaderRepository
</loader-repository>
</jboss-app>
