That may well be the problem. I am using IE and was viewing the PDFs on
the same machine as JBoss was running, so it could have been a memory
issue as well. We've moved the project over to a dedicated server and
I'm told that we haven't been able to duplicate the problem since then.

Unfortunately we're stuck with IE, since this is not a project that we
can assume will be used by a technical audience (or even vaguely
computer literate).. having to use an inferior product just because it
is more popular is frustrating.
