Since you brought up the cost issue - my courses are actually cheap, if you compare with other training providers.  Not just Alcatel in Austria told me that, but also companies in South Africa.  Flying off to Cambridge next month where I was by far the cheapest, including my flight costs.

Your company should have a training budget.  Training is 100% tax deductible.  If you are paying SDL, you can claim some of that back as well, as long as you include our courses in your skills plan.

If you send one or two people on my courses, then my prices will be fairly average.  Not too high, pretty much in line with other courses, if you compare contents.

But, if you run an inhouse course, the price goes way down.  R3200 ex VAT per developer (conditions apply) for a Design Patterns Course is not expensive.  In Austria my nearest competitor was charging R12000.

So, if a Design Patterns Course even makes you 5% more productive, your company will get back the training investment within 3 months.

And besides, because I live in Cape Town, all the local companies get special prices ... :)

Kind regards from

Heinz

Aah, wish I could attend your courses Heinz, but trying to stay within the companies budget L

I’m awaiting approval (from my manager) for a UML course that I’m hoping to attend at Bytes Technology Group.

Enjoyed your “Productive Coder” presentation the other evening, but wish there was more time to discuss some of the points in more depth.

A good book is the Developer's Notebook - from O'Reilly.

And of course, I've heard of this course that covers Java 5 features - very popular in Johannesburg and Europe ;-)

Hi all,

Are there any online tutorials/docs on J2SE 5’s new features?

J2SE 6 is on its way, and I haven’t even looked at 5’s features yet. *embarrassed*
