What does you datasource look like? Also, what version of JBoss are you using. If the latest, put the following in your *-ds.xml file:
<!-- corresponding type-mapping in the standardjbosscmp-jdbc.xml (optional) -->
<metadata>
<type-mapping>mySQL</type-mapping>
</metadata>
That will explicitly tell it to use the MySQL syntax.
There are a number of other things we can check so if send me the contents of your *- ds.xml file that would be a start.
