Pierre, We've just started switching from Axis to XFire ( xfire.codehaus.org ), it integrates very nicely with Spring, and so far its looking a lot faster than Axis, quick and easy to get it up and running, no need for running codegen tools or deploying it to Axis. Got it up and running very quickly, easy to deploy inside an existing web application, and then on the flip side the JaxRpcProxyFactoryBean of Spring makes it a breeze to integrated with a web service.
Just give it the serviceInterface class, the port side interface class, namespace and a wsdl url and wabam! You can start calling your web service. Very cool stuff!
