I started using an IDE for the first time this year, and it's Eclipse 3.2. I come from a unix/vi/c++ background, so I prefer coding with the keyboard instead of the mouse. When I started Java development almost 4 years ago, the IDE's were all crap/expensive/slow. I am very impressed with Eclipse, especially the keyboard shortcuts and the configurable view. Everything just makes sense. A word of caution - stay well clear of JEdit, it's horrible.
