The most comprehensive are listed below. If you have not yet looked at the new TexShare databases, you will find them at http://www.tsl.state.tx.us/texshare/pl/index.html <http://www.tsl.state.tx.us/texshare/pl/index.html> . Please note that the TEA's Texas Library Connection (TLC) provides GALE online databases to school libraries, including STUDENT REFERENCE CENTER GOLD and LITERATURE RESOURCE CENTER. These resources are also available through TexShare. Students who attend schools that are members of the TLC may be familiar with them. Most of GALE's biographical resources that are available through TexShare are on STUDENT REFERENCE CENTER GOLD. GALE's STUDENT REFERENCE CENTER GOLD "SUBJECT" search will return results from these resources, among others: 1. DISCovering Authors 2. U�X�L Jr. Discovering Authors 3. DISCovering Biography 4. DISCovering Science - which contains biographies of scientists. GALE'S STUDENT REFERENCE CENTER GOLD's "PEOPLE" search is a biographical database that may be searched by name, occupation, nationality, ethnicity, birth and death year, birth and death place, and gender. These categories may also be combined. For instance, you may search for African-American Inventors. 1. EXPLORING Short Stories 2. DISCovering Authors 3. U*X*L Junior DISCovering Authors 3. Full-Text Journals GALE'S STUDENT REFERENCE CENTER GOLD's "LITERATURE" search may be searched by genre, literary movement, time period, and theme, as well as name, occupation, nationality, ethnicity, birth and death year, birth and death place, and gender. It will return results from many of the same resources as listed above for "PEOPLE" search. GALE's LITERATURE RESOURCE CENTER WITH SCRIBNER AND TWAYNES includes a great many of biographical databases along with links to web sites with additional information. It features: 1. Merriam-Webster's Biographical Dictionary 2. Merriam-Webster's Encyclopedia of Literature 3. Twayne's English Authors, Twayne's World Authors, Twayne's U.S. Authors 4. Contemporary Authors 5. Dictionary of Literary Biography 6. Scribner's Writer's Series 7. Full-Text Journals Many EBSCO databases available through TexShare also have biographical resources. They include the following. MAS FULLTEXT ULTRA, which is designed for high school students " includes: 1. Hutchinson's Biography Database 2. Biography - from the Arts and Entertainment Network which provides in-depth biographies of well-known political and cultural figures. MASTERFILE PREMIER and ACADEMIC SEARCH PREMIER include: 1. Biography Today - presents profiles of individuals that are of interest to young readers including entertainers, athletes, writers, illustrators, cartoonists and political leaders. THE HANDBOOK OF TEXAS includes biographies of Texans. Also, NETLIBRARY contains hundreds of biographies in e-book format.
