(Please excuse duplication.-L.) Posted by request: Know Before You Go Gears Up for Its Sophomore Year On the eve of its second year, Texas Guaranteed's(TG) Know Before You Go campaign is revving up to distribute updated information to over 300 participating Texas public libraries. Know Before You Go: Unlocking the Door to Your Future(tm) is an awareness campaign aimed at helping public libraries educate their customers about career planning and the college enrollment process, financial aid, and money management issues related to education beyond high school. The campaign kicked off in September 2000. During the first year, 81% of library professionals surveyed rated their satisfaction with the campaign as a 4 or above on a scale of 1 to 5. Many libraries made use of the materials by creating handouts and material displays. Some participants hosted events around the FAFSA teleconference and online chat events. The first year has allowed smaller library facilities to provide expanded information to their customers. Before the advent of Know Before You Go, the public library in White Settlement, Texas, a suburb of Fort Worth, was equipped to give information only on a piecemeal basis. Since the campaign's inception, Know Before You Go has filled a niche and helped them meet a need. Library staff are better prepared to help customers and have even helped students complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online. This coming year, Know Before You Go will continue to focus on the needs public libraries and will expand to high school and college/university libraries in Fall 2002.
