NOTE: Texas libraries of any size or type are eligible for this award! *************************** The sixth annual Highsmith Award, to be presented at the Texas Library Association's Annual Conference in Dallas in late April 2002, will recognize two exemplary, innovative library programs or services that demonstrate collaboration among libraries, community organizations and/or departments. The purpose of these awards is to encourage and promote innovative Texas library programs that were developed collaboratively and can demonstrate a measurable impact on their users. Two awards, each consisting of $1,000 and a plaque to be presented by Highsmith, Inc., are available. APPLICATION DEADLINE IS FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 15, 2002. WHO CAN APPLY Texas libraries of any size or type are eligible for the award and are encouraged to apply. Two awards are available, one for school libraries and the second for any other library type. Applicants may apply for only one of the awards. For programs that might fit into either category, think in terms of the program, rather than applicant. In other words, if a school and public library have collaborated, only one application explaining the program shared by these two institutions should be submitted. It is up to the applicants to determine if the application should be submitted as a school program or a public library program. If in doubt, think of the end customers or users and who received the greatest benefit from the collaborative program. The institution housing the customer would most likely be the best choice. If a public library and an academic library have a shared program, only one application should be received for the program. The collaborative program must have been in existence for a minimum of one year by the application deadline and should have been initiated no more than three years ago. The collaborative program may not have received the Highsmith Award in a previous year. DEADLINE Materials must be postmarked by Friday, February 15, 2002. If sent by package delivery services, they must be received by 5:00 pm. Submission requirements and other details may be found on the TLA web site at http://www.txla.org/html/awards/high.html. ****************************************************** Belinda Boon Manager, Continuing Education and Consulting Texas State Library & Archives Commission P.
