Gale Databases Training for Summer 2002! Register Now! This summer, three different half-day training sessions on the Gale Databases made available through TexShare <http://www.texshare.edu/> sponsored by TIF (Telecommunications Infrastructure Fund) and The Texas State Library & Archives Commission will be offered to library staff across Texas. Gale's Southwest Region Training Consultant, Juanell Marks, is back again this year to deliver top-notch training. Training locations are still being added around the state. Participants must register online. Choose to attend any or all three of the following sessions: Basic Training - What's in the Databases and How to Use Them <http://www.tsl.state.tx.us/ld/workshops/gale/galeindex1.html> Morning Session: 8:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.-Focus: hands-on class devoted to learning the features and functionality of the databases. This training is designed as a basic course with special emphasis on content, purpose, features, and functionality of each database with common interface search features across all the databases emphasized as well. This module is targeted to library staff without much experience searching the database(s). Training packets will be furnished. Databases to cover: Literature Resource Center; Student Resource Center - Gold; Business & Company Resource Center; Biography & Genealogy Master Index; Health & Wellness Resource Center; Health Reference Center - Academic; InfoTrac Custom Newspapers; Inform�; Texas Almanac; What Do I Read Next? Gale Databases : Focus on Health Information <http://www.tsl.state.tx.us/ld/workshops/gale/galeindex2.html> Afternoon Session: 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.-Focus: hands-on class devoted on how to get the most out of the databases when searching on a particular topic, such as health. Emphasis of this training is to take you beyond the basic search. This module is targeted toward library staff who have experience searching the Gale databases; however, library staff attending the morning session would be eligible and welcome to attend this afternoon session as well. Training packets will be provided. Databases to Cover: Health & Wellness Resource Center and Health Reference Center Academic End User Training and Promoting Databases in Your Library <http://www.tsl.state.tx.us/ld/workshops/gale/galeindex3.html> Morning Session: 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.-Focus: hands-on/demo session devoted to training end users plus how to promote the Gale databases in your library. End user training will include suggested outlines for training, practice searches, handling registration, scheduling classes, etc. The class segment on promotions will include tips and pointers on advertising, posting announcements, distributing flyers, ordering and displaying posters, using free resources from Gale, etc. A packet of information will be provided. Training sessions are for varying levels of library staff, so please read descriptions of each session carefully when visiting the links. You must register separately for each session of interest. How To Register: Each of the above links will describe the training session and will give you an idea of who should attend. If you are interested in registering, you may do so by simply scrolling half-way down each webpage to the gold box with blue text. You will see a link that says Register for Workshop. Then, you will have to fill in your personal data, click the date of the workshop you want, and submit. You will need to go to each link and register separately for each workshop. That's it!
